My biggest project from this year was a documentary over my schools musical. For the project, I worked with my older sister, Madison, and my friend, Misti. Since it was my first year in the advanced video production class, I decided that it would be best to do this big project with other people. The first thing we started to do was get lots of b-roll. Mr. Holt tells us that having a lot of b-roll makes the video more interesting to watch. The musical was holding practices three times a week so we started going and getting b-roll there. We started setting up interviews with everyone that we thought would contribute well to the video. For the interviews we had a lot of prep to do before we could actually sit down with someone. We had to learn how to keep the questions flowing without it being awkward, starting and finishing out an interview. Once we met up with people involved for an interview, we would have to set up the chair, the lights, and the camera. We also had to figure out where the best place would be to do it at. After getting everything we needed for the documentary, we started to put it all together. Misti, Madison, and I got to work everyday on the computer because it had to be at least ten minutes long for it to be considered a video. We practiced a lot of team building skills and were able to come out with an amazing documentary that all of us are proud of and we hope that the community is proud of us as well.

Mr. Holt assigned us to do a news story video over something we could do in our community. I was put into a group with Natalie and Isidro. At first, we struggled to figure out a topic to do it over but then Mr. Holt suggested doing on over the decrease in reading scores. We procrastinated with this project because we had a hard time finding a topic, I have been working on an aside project, and we were just unsure of what to do for it. It was our first time doing a news story and some of our first times doing an official project in our advanced class. We started to schedule interviews with teachers and our principal at our school to get their opinions. Once we got b-roll and all of our interviews done, we had a hard time putting it all together. We got some help from another kid in our class and we began to get it together. I learned many things on premiere while working on this project that I did not know about last year. New things that I learned included how to put text in, graphics, and figuring out what clips go where. Overall, this project turned out pretty good even though we had procrastinated some.
For our last project of the year we got to work with our class on the tricaster. It was very difficult to learn how to work it. We learned how to add backgrounds and put it together with our clips. Working with my class made learning the tricaster not so stressful. We recorded our clips in the green sreen room except for the stairs segment. As a group we wanted to do more of a comedic news broadcast that had a lot of errors involved. 1 star news was what we decided to call it because it would probably be rated 1 star on yelp or something. This project was good to do at the end of the year because the whole group had a blast. We had a lot of fun with this project and we hoped to make anyone watching laugh.
This project was an extra project that we did in class to help us work with Premiere Pro. We got to come up with our own idea for the video and do whatever we wanted for it. Misti and I decided to film a funny parody of one of the very last scene from the movie Inside Out. We went out and got some random shots of us doing some crazy things then we both put together our own finished projects in Premiere. The first thing I did was figure out the order I wanted my clips to be in. This was our second project using Premiere Pro so I did not completely know how to use it yet. The challenging part about this project was editing with something that I have never really used before. In the end, I added music, got a voice over, and put it all together and it turned out pretty funny.
I had a hard time with this project because we got a lot of random clips that we had to put together. I did not know how I was going to make the shots all connect. There were a lot of different things that I could put into the finished product. I wanted the woman to seem naive about the whole situation going on outside and I wanted the man to seem sneaky. I added different music for both the woman and the man (old radio music for the woman and creepy, intense music for the man) which really helped it come together. I just started putting clips together and it eventually just came out they way that it did, this project showed me that you should get lots of shots for your videos which then helped me learn how to put shots together correctly.
I really focused on the script for this project because it was a radio commercial. It did not take long for me to come up with this idea so it gave me a lot of time to really make the script perfect. It was the first time that I really got to work with audio so I wanted to add sound effects and work with getting it all to flow together well. It was hard finding the sound effects that I really envisioned for this project but I eventually did find some and I added it into the parts where I thought that they fit in the best with my commercial. I really liked this project because I was able to come up with my own product which made the project even easier to make.
At first, Misti and I had no idea with what we were going to do when Mr. Holt told us that we were going to be making a movie chase scene. We got to walk around the school some that week and figure out our plan. We wanted it to be a long chase scene at first. It would start inside, then they would go through hallways and the library and then they would eventually end up outside running through cars and alleys. That is what we were going to do for with this project but we quickly realized that we would not be able to do that. We had a short time frame and we had to use people in our class which were also working on chase scene projects. We ended up not taking any shots outside and just stuck with the first part of our initial idea. It was really hard knowing what shots we wanted so we just took a lot of shots from different angles and it was a lot of running for our actors. The scene in the library and then the last scene were really fun to shoot. We wanted to make the videos funny but the audio veyr serious. This project might have been one of the harder ones but I am glad that we got the shots that we did because it all came together in the end.
It took me awhile to come up with the idea of The Friendly Fridge. Mr. Holt wanted us to come up with something to make a video commercial about. My family was getting a new fridge at the time and when my mom said that it was coming later that month, I knew exactly what I was going to do. My video for this project turned out exactly how I wanted it to. I printed of a picture of a voice and just taped it onto the new fridge and thats how I created the Friendly Fridge. This project helped me with working with audio because I needed a lot of different sound effects to make this video come together. The only difficult thing was getting my shots all correctly when they brought in the new fridge because they could only bring in the fridge once so it had to be exactly how I wanted it. In the end, I ended up getting the right shots and coming up with this fun commercial that I am very proud of.
For this project, Misti and I wanted to portray how serious suicide is. We had big ideas for this video at first but realized that our ideas might not be able to work in the end. We needed lots of people for it but it became hard to find a time that some people could do it during school. Our first initial idea was to have a whole story line of someone getting bullied and then have it get to the point where that person actually considers suicide. At the end, we wanted to have it "go back in time" and have someone ask that person if they were okay to show how communication can really save a life. It obviously did not turn out that way but we figured out a good alternative. We decided to just have a bunch of short clips of multiple people from our school and just to say some facts about suicide throughout. It ended up being pretty basic but it got the point across. I am still very proud of this project and it helped me learn many things about the process of making videos.
